Employment
One of the next major initiatives by Noah’s Ark is to develop an
employment program that works. The current system moves an
individual with developmental disabilities from the transition program
of the public school system, through the Vocation Rehab process and
ultimately to the Department of Developmental Disabilities at Children
and Families. This system has been a dismal failure with a 93%
unemployment rate.

Noah’s Ark is exploring the potential of becoming a service provider
under the new Ticket-To-Work program recently established by the
federal government through the Social Security Administration.
There appears to be some great potential in linking the current Florida
Southern College Transition Program with the Ticket-To-Work program.
Noah’s Ark envisions connecting the students that have acquired
appropriate levels of employment skills with local area employers
within
he greater community. Clearly, the goal is to empower individuals with
developmental disabilities by helping them acquire and maintain
meaningful employment.
