A Gift from God, operated by His Angels
Our daughter, Elizabeth, has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair.
We knew when we adopted Elizabeth as an infant 40 years ago, that she had some serious medical issues. She has lived with us her entire life. Elizabeth has also been the love of our life, alongside her adopted brother. We thought for years that Liz would live in our ADA accessible home in Orlando even after her mother and I passed on.
But we found that we were wrong. There was a better way….
Elizabeth needed to have her own life, away from us, with young peers, and a living environment that was safe, engaging and fun. Elizabeth needed to be living on her own.
We found in Lakeland, an organization called Noah’s Ark of Central Florida. They had built an apartment community for individuals with life challenges called The Villages at Noah’s Landing. We found a dedicated and professional staff that provided an independent and supported-living home for people with developmental disabilities.
Our Elizabeth started living at Noah’s Landing on December 4, 2020, and we haven’t looked back.
The new lifestyle has changed our daughter from being a spectator of life to being a participant. With 126 fellow residents on the campus, she now is in group stretching exercise classes; plays bingo, karaoke, pictionary games, and even bocce. She just auditioned and was asked to become a member of the Noah’s Landing resident choir. Elizabeth called to tell us of the choir and we were so proud of her accomplishments, as was she. And Liz has been at The Landings for only 3 months.
We could never have provided the rich mixture of life experiences that Noah’s Landing has for our Elizabeth. This community and lifestyle is to us, a gift from God operated by His Angels.
