Report from Jerome Thomas, Special Olympics Coach
Friday and Saturday December 7 and 8, 2018 Special Olympics Florida had their State Bowling Championship Tournament. It was held at Boardwalk Bowl 10749 E. Colonial Dr. Orlando, Fl. 32817.
Noah’s Ark was well represented with 3 four person teams. As a group they attended the Friday evening meal, Opening Ceremonies and Athlete Dance at nearby Union Park Middle School.
Competition started Saturday morning for our athletes. The facility was an amazing place with 80 bowling lanes. All three teams bowled at the same time. Our team made up of Karen Scheidig, Georgiana Reese, Billy Rice and Adam Frese competed in one of the largest divisions of competition at the event. Their fifth place ribbon was a real strong showing for our group of athletes. The team of Amy Rothman, David Paoli, Alex Rivera and Chris Doble had real stiff competition in their division. After the first game of the two game competitions there was only one pin difference between the top two teams. Their second place medals also was a very strong showing for our athletes. The third team made up of Shad Adams, Steve Linder, Marcel Hickman and Tyler Sells was in the strongest division of competition. With a true team effort by Marcel Hickman and Steven Lender had their best scores in the first game. Then the second game Shad Adams and Tyler Sells had their best scores. Which allowed them to receive the first place medals?
It was an outstanding competition. Our athletes did a remarkable job of representing themselves and Noah’s Ark. I and my wife could have not be more pleased and proud of this group of athletes.
I would like to thank all the parents who allowed me and the other coach to take them to the State Games.
Thanks for all the support the teams have received. A special thanks to all that were a the Games to support our athletes. The parents, the relatives and especially those from out of state.
Merry Christmas to all!!
