Update from George Sells, Board Director and Volunteer Committee Chair
We hosted our inaugural volunteer orientation and training session on Saturday morning. We had about 15 volunteers that went through the process of becoming certified – which is to say that they completed the volunteer application, obtained a level 2 background check, and attended our orientation session.
Among other things, during that session we reviewed the role and responsibilities of all volunteers, we provided them with contact information for staff, the volunteer activity committee, and the board of directors; we also reviewed emergency contact information; sign-in/sign-out procedure; basic safety; a tour of the facility; and how to communicate with volunteer committee members in the event that a volunteer needs to reschedule an activity.
We are also going to be scheduling a basic CPR training for volunteers that have an interest in becoming certified on that (that will be paid for by each interested volunteer) and MaryJo Abbatiello will be conducting that training at a date in the future.
We distributed teal colored volunteer T-shirts that we require all certified volunteers to wear while conducting any activities.
By all accounts, we had a really good and successful first orientation session. We’ll be announcing dates for new sessions soon…
